Fees and rules checked against the official Uganda immigration website in October 2026. Always check immigration.go.ug before you travel, as they can change.
Do I need a visa?
Most visitors need a visa to enter Uganda, and visas are no longer issued on arrival — you must apply online and have your approval letter before you fly.
Citizens of a number of countries don't need a visa, including Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania, Burundi, South Sudan, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Ghana, Ireland, Malaysia, Singapore, the United Arab Emirates and several Caribbean, Pacific and southern African nations. See the full list of visa-exempt countries. Visa-exempt visitors still need a valid passport and a yellow fever vaccination certificate.
How to apply
- Go to the official Uganda e-visa portal at visas.immigration.go.ug.
- Choose your visa type (single-entry tourist visa for most holidays).
- Fill in the form and upload a passport photo, a scan of your passport and your yellow fever vaccination certificate.
- Pay the fee online by card. A single-entry tourist visa costs USD 50. Fees are non-refundable and your bank may add a small charge.
- Wait for your approval letter by email and print a copy to show at the airport.
Applications are usually processed in 2–3 working days, but apply at least one to two weeks before you travel in case immigration asks for more information. Your approval is valid for 90 days from the date it's issued — if you don't travel within that time you'll need to apply again.
East Africa Tourist Visa
If you are also visiting Kenya and Rwanda, the East Africa Tourist Visa covers all three countries with one multiple-entry visa for tourism. It costs USD 100 and is valid for 90 days from the date of issue. It can't be renewed, and it ends if you leave the three countries. Apply through the country you will enter first.
What to bring
- A passport valid for at least six months, with blank pages
- Your printed visa approval letter
- Your yellow fever vaccination certificate — you will be asked for it on arrival
- Proof of where you are staying and your return or onward ticket
